Storm Rolls O’er the Mountain

A big storm rolls over the mountain.

A light mist hovered in the Little Wolf Valley after an afternoon of rain.
We had a close encounter with a copperhead while hiking in the forest.

Fortunately Theresa spotted him, and he was coiled up tight, saying "I’m cold from the rain, so don’t mess with me, and I won’t mess with you."
We hiked up to the cliffs below Little Wolf Peak in early March. Though it was nearly 60 degrees outside, there were still a couple inches of snow on the ground and massive ice formations on the cliffs.

We encountered some of the largest icicles we’ve ever seen. Many were over 10 feet long and too thick to wrap your hand around, and a couple icicles grew to as much as 20 feet long.
We went for a hike on this sunny but chilly early March day at Little Wolf Nature Preserve.

The beavers have left our pond once again. Theresa is trying to move a big tree that fell over the entrance to the beaver den.

A lone tree in Little Wolf’s North Forest has decided to go red early.

An overcast day sometimes brings out the foliage colors even more than sunny days.

Soon the forest will be more red than green.
Check out this video of Theresa testing her new Mossberg 20-gauge pump-action shotgun. Theresa practiced killing zombies for when the bio-engineered plague infects humankind in the 2012 Apocalypse.
She’s a crack shot and went 5-for-5. We decided to kill our old water heater here at Little Wolf… that’ll teach it not to work!
8We had the pleasant surprise of finding the cutest small fawn in the field below Jimmy Pond.
Actually, it was our dog Darby who found the fawn. Darby was barking in the brush with that “Come check it out, I’ve got something trapped” bark. When we arrived, Darby was nose-to-nose with the fawn, which was about the same size as Darby but still quite clumsy on its feet.
A thunderstorm formed just south of us and towered over Little Wolf Mountain:
