Big Flat Rock is a room-sized boulder in Hazel’s Cathedral with a flat top that’s great for picnicking or resting a spell before you climb the Hollow Staircase Trail. From the top of Big Flat Rock you have a wonderful view of the Hazel’s Cathedral, Tree Perch, The V and The Hollow.

Beavers built a dam in the spring of 2005 at the outlet of Jimmy Pond. Beavers build dams so that the entrance to their lodge remains under water and inaccessible to predators, such as coyotes and bear. The dam is usually strong enough for a human to walk across, though your boots may get a little wet. The beavers left Jimmy Pond in early 2007.

Jimmy Pond (aka: Pond, James Pond) is a 1-acre mountain-fed pond. It remains clear much of the year because it has a nearly constant supply of fresh water from Rocky Branch and an active drain through the Chute.

Lauren’s Turtle Head Rock is a boulder on the steep climb up the Hollow Staircase Trail. The turtle is always smiling because he gets to watch over this beautiful part of the forest.

Angel’s Sidetrack Trail climbs above Peanut Lane, walks through the pretty Angel Hill forest, and ends up in the Sunny Spot. You climb to a nice peaceful stop that looks up a ravine. The trail flattens and follows Peanut Lane from above.

Little Joel was unaware that special visitors can name features in Little Wolf Nature Preserve. Naming is often a serendipitous experience, usually the result of the visitor taking a special fancy to something in the Preserve.
When Joel came upon this mini-boulder, he did what every healthy boy would do in his position: climb it! After he scrambled up, we asked him, "Where’s Joel?" To which he replied, "On Joel’s Rocky Rock." And so it was to be!

Ravenwolf Falls is a 12-foot waterfall in the Wetlands region and is the largest active falls in the Little Wolf Preserve. Ravenwolf Falls runs continuously during wet times and after a heavy rainfall.
